Lake Saskatoon Winery
Situated on the west side of Saskatoon Lake and on the east side of Saskatoon mountain, the Saskatoon berry thrives in this micro-climate. From ancient times the natives would come to the shores of Saskatoon Lake to hunt and pick berries, pounding the berries into the meat and fat and drying the mixture as journey food and to keep them healthy through the winter when the snow got too deep to hunt. The Saskatoon berry is found in Siberia, Alaska, the Yukon, and down through the prairie provinces. I believe that the early natives came across on the land bridge bringing with them their journey food, spreading the Saskatoon berry down into the prairies for us to enjoy and derive the healthy benefits of this very nutritious berry. Another fruit that I grow is called sour cherry, also from Siberia. To Siberia with love.
